How to repair a faulty midi-out on a Quadraverb 2?
by Setzer J.
WHY?
When you buy a program for you quadraverb, they sometimes screw up the Quadraverbs midi-out to ensure you can't copy the program by simply dumping all the programdata. But what if you realy need the midi-out (f.e. when using midi thru). In that case, we recommend you to follow this tutorial.
WHAT YOU NEED
  • A mini portable soldering-bolt (f.e. www.portasol.com) with a replacable blow-torch. (you can also use a gas-burner)
  • A very sharp knife (f.e. a scalpel).
  • WHAT TO DO
  • Remove the cover of the Quadraverb (in some cases there is a label with a warning -> ignore it)
  • Locate the bubble in hard epoxy-resin, heat it with the blow-torch about 5 seconds. (the epoxy can't stand the heat).
  • Remove the epoxy (that now is very weak and fragile) very simple with a small screw-driver for example.
  • You will now see the 74HC14 chip (that serves as the midi-out and that is missing a cutted pin.)
  • Normaly it should be possible to liberate a small portion of the cutted pin with the sharp knife.
  • Resolder it with a soldering iron with a very small tip.
  • WHAT ELSE
Be sure that the capacitor's located at C8 and C9 are replaced by capacitor's with a value of 33pF (styroflex type). This will enhance the guitar sound when the unit is used between the guitar and the amp.
    FINALLY
Place the cover back, and the midi-out is ready to use.
NOTE: You can now copy programs from one Quadraverb to another, this is NOT the purpose of this tutorial but when you do, respect copyrights!
